Drafting of the Penal Code of Afghanistan discussed with the Scholars Council (Shura-i-Ulama) of Afghanistan

A delegation of the Council of Religious Scholars of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan led by Mawlawi Enayatullah Baleegh, called on His Excellency, Dr. Abdul Basir Anwar, the Justice Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, at his office, on Monday 07/06/1395.

In this meeting, the Justice Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, besides welcoming the delegation of the Council of Religious Scholars of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, gave detailed and comprehensive information about the Penal Code of Afghanistan. The Minister also stressed on the need of drafting the Penal Code of Afghanistan and provided thorough information on the contents of the Penal Code. He also shed light on the progress in scrutinizing of the draft Penal Code and its codification, on the basis of the provisions of the Islamic Sharia.

The delegation of the Religious Scholars Council of the country, praised the accomplished work, and expressed their satisfaction over the conformity of the provisions of the Penal Code with the Islamic Sharia. The delegation members of the Religious Scholars Council of Afghanistan, in order to further enrichment of the Penal Code, in particular, on observing the proportion between crimes entitled for the discretionary punishment and the punishment anticipated for the offenders of discretionary crimes, shared their views and reservations with the minister.

The drafting of the Penal Code is scheduled to be completed before the opening of the Brussels Conference this month.
