Commemoration of International Day on Combating Human Trafficking in Ministry of Justice

In a meeting held on this occasion in Ministry of Justice; Naife Riazat, Director Foreign Relations Department of Ministry of Justice and Chairperson to the Technical Committee of High Commission to Combat Human Trafficking, Deputy Minister Planning and Policy of Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations, Representative of Afghanistan Human Rights Commission and representatives of the relevant institutions participated.

Riazat, made a mention of the achievements of High Commission to Combat Human Trafficking and added that human trafficking ranks second in terms of a financial source for the international terrorism as drugs smuggling stands the first. He further added that human trafficking in fact victimizes the different groups of the society, specifically women, children and juveniles are vulnerable to it; similarly he underlined that Afghanistan is considered to be the origin, transit and destination country for human trafficking.

“According to the annual report of Department of State- USA, Afghanistan was in the second rank of supervision in 2016, however fortunately it has been promoted to the second rank without supervision in 2017 as a result of the steps taken so far in this regard”, he said.

Mehr Khoda Sabr, Deputy Minister Planning and Policy of Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation also talked on the issue and pointed out that Afghanistan has 4.5 million refugees in the foreign countries while 1.2 million other citizens of it are internally displaced persons. He also briefly stated that around 400 thousand refugees have repatriated to the country this year.

Following that, Khaled Esaar- representative of Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission and Qari Mohammad Fahim Sajed, shaded light on human dignity from perspective of Islam and human rights and declared that human trafficking crime is an explicit violation of human dignity and in contradiction with the Islamic law.
