ABOUT THE MINISTER

This meeting was held in participation of governmental and non-governmental institutions that are working for combat against human trafficking.
In this meeting, the role of Ministry of Women Affairs was discussed as regards protecting of victims, issues of protection centers and more importantly, the challenges and protecting trafficking in person’s victims and economic empowerment programs that are provided by victims protection centers were also introduced.
Nazia Fayzi- the director of protection centers of ministry of women affairs said that this ministry so far possesses only 28 protection centers in 20 provinces of the country of Afghanistan for protecting the victims of different forms of violence. Hajar is the only organization that protects victims of trafficking in persons in Afghanistan. Despite appreciating the mentioned office, she requested the continuation of the services and its expansion in other provinces of the country.
Mohammad Hasan Salimi- In charge of high commission secretariat of combat against trafficking in person and migrants trafficking said that lack of protection centers for the victims of trafficking in person is a big challenge and ministry of foreign affairs of America has also recommended that human trafficking victims be protected. He said that reports of ministry of women affairs show that 28 supporting centers are existing in the capital and provinces among which only 1 center is for protecting trafficking in person and the rest are supporting centers for victims of violence against women. In proportion with figures and numbers of human trafficking, protecting centers for victims of human trafficking are less and needs appropriate attention to address the problems of human trafficking victims.
At the end, participants presented their comments and suggestions for improvement of services provided for the victims, specifically the human trafficking victims. `
