The Legal id Aid Providers’ Network and Defense Lawyers of Afghanistan held a conference to introduce the achievements of this network and establish coordination among the legal aid providing institutions.

Mrs. Horia  Obaidi, member of the Legal Aid Providers’  Network and Defense Lawyers of Afghanistan and representative of Afghanistan MEDICA Organization  gave information about the network to participants and introduced the members of this Network.

Also, Asadullah Wahdat, the DirectorGeneral of Legal Aid Department of the Ministry of Justice of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan spoke on the importance of coordination among the legal aid providing organization and emphasized on establishment of further cooperation among these institutions.

Mr. Fararoon, the representative of Afghanistan Independent Bar Association talked about the problems and challenges of the defense lawyers and legal aid providers and asked for the solution of these problems.  Lieutenant General Fasihee, Deputy Director-General of Prisons and Detention Centers also mentioned  the problems of the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Centers  and read out the  resolution of the previous meeting on  the Legal Aid Providers’ Network and Defense Lawyers of Afghanistan and supporting the network. He also promised of cooperation on tackling the problems of the defense lawyers and the legal aid providers.

Then, Qazawatpal  Mirajudin  Hamedi, the Director General of the Kabul  Appeal Courts  and Saran pal Sarbaz  Director  of control over freedom deprivation  areas   of the Attorney General office  talked on  the problems and providing awareness to defense lawyers, prior to  trial and the significance of the defense lawyer in the investigation stage.

At the end, Shahid Aria, the head of Legal Aid Unit of the Ministry of Justice presented a report on achievements of the legal aid providers and the Defense Lawyers of Afghanistan.
