Trip of Professional Deputy Minister to Panjshir province

25 Feb 2011. An MOJ delegation led by Dr. Qasem Hashimzai, Technical Deputy Minister, and accompanied by Colonel Habib Khan Rezwani, Chief of Staff for Prisons and Detention Centers Department visited Panjshir Prison.

The delegation visited the site allocated for the new prison located 13 km away from Bazarak District in a secure area. A prison once stood on the grounds, however, it was ruined during the wars.
                                                                                              
The delegation met with the Governor of Panjshir in his office. The Governor promised to rebuild the bridge which linking the main road to the new prison site from the provincial budget. Admiral Haward promised to initiate the construction plan of the new prison.

The current prison located near Panjshir River lacks many facilities necessary for inmates and they are detained in a big conex provided by Correction System Support Program (CSSP).

The prisoners complained of lack of electricity. Admiral Haward instructed the PRT to support the expenses of the current small generator for the next five months. Admiral Haward also instructed PRT to fund the expenses of the boundary walls. This area will be used for prison visitors, as well as a recreational area for prisoners.
